Scanning with the iPhone

Scanning with iPhone (TrueDepth Camera)

Use an iPhone X or newer with the front-facing camera.

  • Hold the device 19–34 cm (7–13 inches) away from the limb.
  • Slowly move the device around the body part, ensuring complete coverage.
If it’s difficult to use the front-facing camera directly, Galileo can provide a mirror attachment to make positioning easier.
  • See below how to scan with the mirror.

Turn on Mirror Mode

If scanning with a mirror, it's important that you turn on mirror mode in the scanning app so it captures the shape in the correct orientation.

Before clicking "Scan," check the "Mirror" option.

What can I scan with an iPhone?

iPhones are great at capturing positive models such as patient limbs and plaster positives. You can try capturing the inside of a cast; however, the limited depth perception often makes it different to capture the entire distal end.
