Custom Brim Shapes
We have our own list of AK brim for you to choose from, or you can send us a scan of a custom brim you'd like to use.
For a list of our normal brims see: AK Brim Shapes
What Are Custom brims?
Custom brims are a custom shape of a limb to use as a base for fabricating either an Ak by numbers socket or a Scan Merged Socket.
Some examples of custom brims:

How They Are Used
- These brims can be used as the main brim whenever an AK Check Or Prep Socket is submitted.
- When the practitioner selects “Clinic Custom” in the AK Brim shape drop-down on our AK socket order form, our team knows to use the custom brim provided by the CPO.
- You can have multiple brims and with names you can list out in the additional information section of an order.
- Modifications that we add on every socket can be added to these brims so that you don’t have to request them.
How to Submit your custom brim:
There are multiple ways you can submit a brim to us. For best results we recommend taking a scan of a plaster positive from a socket you like the shape of. You can mark your landmarks on the socket such as perineum so that we’ll always know where to align them with your measurements.
You can also ask us to modify one of our existing brims to your liking.
Using a Physical model and scan that you already have:
- Through FabOne (With a patient order):
- Log in → Go to AK Socket order form → Select the scan of the custom brim → Fill out the order form.
- In the AK Brim shape drop-down, select “Clinic Custom” to indicate use of this brim for the current patient.
- In the “Additional Information” section (bottom of the order form), note that this brim should also be saved as your or “Clinic” custom brim for future use.
- We’ll save your brim to our system and your profile for the future as well as make the order based on that shape
- If you choose to submit the scan of the brim as on order via FabOne without asking us to build a check socket, the order will be removed after the design lead has received it, so that it doesn’t count against one of your allotted designs. Just let us know in the additional comments.
- Email:
- Scan the plaster positive you’d like to make into a brim.
- Send STL/scan directly to [success@protosthetics.com].
- Specify if the custom brim should be used for future orders.
Modifying an existing brim
- Through FabOne (With a patient order):
- Ask us on a patient order to make adjustments to a brim we use
- In the comments just ask for this modification to become your default
- Revision:
- Submit a revision to an AK order and just ask us to make that order your custom brim.
- You’ll receive a confirmation message from us and the order will be removed after the design lead has received it, so that it doesn’t count against one of your allotted designs.
