Galileo O&P - Lubricating the Rails

Purpose

Prevent extra wear on the bearings and reduce potential noise coming from the movement of the printer

Recurrence

Once every 6 months or when squeaking

Steps

  • Home the machine

    • From the Main Menu, go to the Move Menu

    • Home

    • Home All

  • Lower the Z-Axis

    • Go back to the Move Menu

    • Set “Move Distance” to 50mm

    • Hit Z+

      • Hitting "Z-" will crash the Bed into the Nozzles

    • Set “Move Distance” to 5mm

    • Hit Z+

      • The Z level should be at 70mm

  • Select Disable Motors

    • Accept

      • Position Gantry and Toolheads similar to provided picture

  • Apply Lubrication to Z Rails

    • Use the provided Oil Bottle to apply oil to the hole in the rail

      • The hole should be partially covered by the X Gantry

      • Fill the hole until almost flush

        • Not much oil should be used

      • Do this for all 3 Vertical, Z Rails

  • Apply Lubrication to X Rail

    • Place a small, ~1/4” bead of oil on the rail to the Left side of the Left Toolhead

    • Place a small, ~1/4” bead of oil on the rail to the Right side of the Right Toolhead

  • Apply Lubrication to Y Rails

    • Place a small, ~1/4” bead of oil on the Left rail in front of the gantry

    • Place a small, ~1/4” bead of oil on the Right rail in front of the gantry

  • Working the oil into the bearings

    • With the gantry still in the center position

    • Grab the center of the gantry, move as far back as you can

    • Pull gantry all the way forward

    • Repeat this twice more

    • Home all - then you’re done!
